Community Info
Farmington and Farmington Hills are located in the heart of Oakland County, a half-hour drive from downtown Detroit. Bloomfield Hills lies to the north, Livonia—rated among the best places in the U.S. to raise children—is to the south. Novi, one of the fastest growing cities in all of metro Detroit is to the west, and Southfield, where Oakland County goes to work, lies to the east.

While the communities are rich in history, both are widely known as a dynamic center of fine residences and subdivisions, excellent schools, including Orchard Ridge Campus of Oakland Community College, model industrial parks and two registered historic districts, one of them on the National Register. The two regions enjoy more than 628 acres of open space for public use and parks.

Schools
Farmington public schools serve a population of approximately 11,000 students covering the areas of Farmington, Farmington Hills, and West Bloomfield. The school system has received numerous awards including the 1999 Distinguished Award of Achievement from the Michigan School Public Relations Association (MSPRA), the 1999 Award of Merit from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) and the 1997 Award of Excellence Award from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA). Local Attractions
Residents enjoy a variety of cultural activities coordinated throughout the year by the Farmington Cultural Arts Division. Farmington is home to several parks including Shiawassee, Drake, Masonic, Historic and Floral as well as a "vest-pocket park" that stretches along Orchard Street—a wonderful place for shopping, doing business or just enjoying the scene. Many community events take place in the parks including Kids Day in the Park, the Youth Baseball Tournament and the annual Shiawassee Park Fishing Derby. Parents and children from both communities gather at Farmington's Shiawassee Park and fish the River Rouge. The parks are also a place for residents and visitors to enjoy a peaceful atmosphere and scenic beauty.

A 70,000 square foot ice arena provides the city with two large ice rinks to enjoy the winter atmosphere. The facility provides recreational and competitive skating for youth and adult hockey associations, public skating, instructional skating and figure skating.

Thanks to its rural charm and beauty, the area began attracting many well-to-do bankers and businessman to the area in the early 1900s, which helped in establishing the area by building summer and country homes throughout the township. Today, the area is beautified by an abundance of blooming orchards throughout Oakland County, creating a scenic paradise in springtime.
